Hi there!
Welcome to Mosby's Waterloo! I'm Liz Watkins and he's Cecil Morris.
Mosby's Waterloo is a mix of fields and timber and was once part of Buckskin Creek Farm (a Dinwiddie Country Century farm still owned by the Mitchell Family). We purchased the property in 2018 and were able to purchase the adjacent house and land and finally move out here in October 2021. (Thanks, Covid!)
Then things started with a bang...
Cecil informed me in the Spring of 2022 that a whole bunch of broiler chicks were going to arrive and we needed to build a brooder and mobile shelters ASAP! Wait! What? Dude, what are you talking about? I haven't handled a live chicken since I was a kid! Good thing I'm a quick study and he's handy with tools! We learned everything we could about chickens and better ways to raise them, implemented pasture raised methods inspired by those used at Polyface in Swoope, Virginia and most importantly: asked questions and listened to the advice of successful chicken farmers here in Dinwiddie and across the state. If it was not for those relationships we would NOT have made it through the first summer.
We successfully raised and processed our first batch of Cornish Cross Broilers and took them to market the Summer of 2022. In Spring 2023, we added Rangers as a meat bird option and a beautiful selection of eggs from our Laying Hens to our product list.
So come see us here at the farm or stop by one of the farmers markets. We're happy to talk to you and show you what we are doing to bring healthy wholesome food to you. Cecil and I look forward to sharing the bounty of our farm with you.
Sincerely yours,
Liz Watkins
